Three Formats of Cricket and Your Favourite Tournaments

vvip Cricket Betting Market Formats

Cricket is more than a sport in Bangladesh — it is a feeling. At vvip you can bet across three main formats. Each format has its own pace and strategy, so the betting markets are structured differently for each.

T20: The fastest format. The match can turn with every over. BPL and IPL are both played in this format and are the two leagues Bangladeshi fans know best. Every Tigers match at the ICC T20 World Cup carries its own special excitement.

ODI: The 50-over format gives more room for considered analysis. ODI markets for World Cups and bilateral series are very popular among bettors.

Test: This five-day format rewards patience and analysis. Because a draw is possible, three outcome markets (Team A wins, Team B wins, Draw) are available together — something you do not get in T20 or ODI.

Football and Other Sports Betting

vvip Football and Sports Betting Section

Alongside cricket, football betting is equally popular at vvip. You can bet on various football matches from European leagues to international tournaments. With so much happening within 90 minutes, live in-play betting on football is particularly appealing.

The main difference between cricket and football markets is the number of possible outcomes. In T20 and ODI cricket only two outcomes are possible (win or lose), so odds tend to be close. Football adds the draw, making three outcomes possible and giving the odds a different shape.

vvip also offers betting markets on tennis, badminton, kabaddi and basketball, among other sports. Each sport has its own market structure, but the core principle is the same — converting the probability of an event into odds. Betting is always for entertainment — please follow the responsible gaming guidelines carefully.

Popular Betting Markets — What to Bet on and How

Match Winner

Match Winning Team

Predicting which team will win the entire match is the simplest market. In T20 or ODI it is Team A versus Team B: back the team you think is more likely to win.

Toss

Toss Market

A bet on which team will win the toss before the match starts. It is a straightforward 50-50 market, so odds are usually similar for both teams. The toss market often closes shortly before the match begins.

Top Batsman

Highest Run Scorer

Betting on which batsman will score the most runs for their team requires looking at batting form and pitch conditions. Check the recent performances of the players you are familiar with.

Over / Under

Total Runs Over / Under

Will the combined runs scored by both teams be more (over) or fewer (under) than a set number? That is the over/under market. Analysing pitch behaviour, conditions and weather can help inform your decision in this market.

Multi Bet

Multi Bet / Multiple Selections

Combining multiple matches or markets on a single slip creates a multi bet. You receive the full return at the combined odds only if every selection is correct; if any one selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Innings Runs

First Innings Runs

A bet on how many runs a team will score in the first innings. In T20, the powerplay runs in the first 6 overs may also be available as a separate market, which is settled as soon as that phase of play ends.

How to Read Odds — Decimal, Fractional and American

Odds are a numerical expression of how likely a betting platform considers an event to be, and an indication of how much you will get back if your bet wins. Odds can be displayed in three formats — decimal, fractional and American. All three carry the same information, just presented differently.

Format Odds for Team A to Win Return on ৳200 Stake
Decimal 3.00 ৳600 (৳400 profit + ৳200 original stake)
Fractional 2/1 ৳600 (৳400 profit + ৳200 original stake)
American +200 ৳600 (৳400 profit + ৳200 original stake)

Example 1 — Team A wins: Decimal 3.00 = Fractional 2/1 = American +200. A winning ৳200 bet returns ৳600 (including ৳400 profit); a losing bet costs ৳200.

Example 2 — Team B is the favourite: Decimal 1.25 = Fractional 1/4 = American -400. In American format, the minus (-) sign shows how much you need to stake to make ৳100 profit. A ৳200 bet returns ৳250 (only ৳50 profit) — because the odds are lower for the favourite.

Understanding Decimal Odds Easily

Multiply your stake by the decimal odds to get the total return. 3.00 × ৳200 = ৳600. Higher odds mean the outcome is considered less likely — but the return is greater if you win.

Fractional Odds

2/1 means ৳2 profit for every ৳1 staked. 1/4 means ৳1 profit for every ৳4 staked. The fractional format is more common in the UK.

Multi Bet Odds

Three selections at decimal 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.60 = 3.36 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳336 if all win; if any one loses, the full ৳100 is gone.

Live In-Play Betting — Odds Change During the Match

vvip Live In-Play Cricket Betting

In-play or live betting means placing bets while the match is in progress. Odds shift quickly with every wicket, every over and changes in each team's run rate.

Say Team A is batting strongly in the first 10 overs and has already reached 80 runs. At that point Team A's odds to win will shorten (they have become the favourite) and Team B's odds will lengthen. Conversely, if Team A loses two wickets in quick succession, the odds picture will change fast.

In-play in a Test match is even more layered — daily pitch deterioration, fatigue and weather all influence the odds. Live betting demands close attention to the match and quick decision-making. With the vvip App, live betting on mobile at vvip is even more convenient.

One advantage of live betting is the ability to bet based on the actual state of the match, which is not possible before it starts. Keep in mind, though, that betting is always for entertainment — set your own limits and stick to them.

Betting Exchange — The Concept of Back and Lay Betting

In regular betting you bet against the platform. In a betting exchange you bet directly against other bettors — you either "back" a selection (bet that something will happen) or "lay" it (bet that something will not happen).

Example: You BACK Team A at decimal 1.80 with ৳1,000 — if Team A wins you make ৳800 profit; if they do not, you lose ৳1,000 (excluding commission). If you LAY Team A at the same odds — if Team A does not win you make ৳1,000 profit; if they do win, you owe ৳800 in liability (excluding commission).

If there is insufficient liquidity (no opposing bettor) on the exchange, your bet may not be matched — that is a limitation of the exchange model. To learn more about the various betting options at vvip, visit the vvip Bet page.

1.80
Example: Decimal Odds
BACK ৳1,000 → ৳800 profit if win
LAY ৳1,000 → ৳1,000 profit if no win, ৳800 liability if win
(excluding commission, for illustration only)

Some Practical Tips for Cricket Betting

vvip Betting Tips and Strategy Section
1

Understand the Format Before You Bet

T20, ODI and Test have different paces. Each format has a different market structure — get familiar with it before placing your bet.

2

Set Your Budget First

Decide how much you will bet before you start, and do not go beyond that limit. Betting is one form of entertainment — no strategy guarantees a win. Read the responsible gaming guidelines.

3

Check the Pitch and Weather

High total runs are not to be expected on a spin-friendly pitch. If rain is likely, the match may finish under the Duckworth-Lewis method — this affects the odds.

4

Be Careful with Multi Bets

One wrong selection in a multi bet and you lose the whole thing. Adding more selections increases the combined odds, but getting all of them right becomes harder.

5

Compare Odds

Look at the odds across different markets for the same match. Sometimes one market fits your analysis better than another.

Frequently Asked Questions — Cricket Betting

In T20 and ODI, only two outcomes are possible (Team A or Team B wins), so the match winner market has just two options. In Test cricket, a draw is also a result, so you can bet on three options. Test matches also have more innings-based markets and odds shift gradually over five days, whereas in T20 the odds move quickly with every over.

Odds change fastest when a wicket falls. Big shifts also happen at the end of the Powerplay, after a big six, or when the target comes within reach in the final overs. To do live betting well, you need to watch the match closely and be ready to make quick decisions.

If a match is completely abandoned due to rain, bets are usually cancelled and stakes are returned. If the result is decided by the D/L (Duckworth-Lewis) method, bets are settled based on that result. To know the conditions for specific markets, see the Terms and Conditions.

A multi bet lets you add several selections, and if all of them are correct, you get a return at the combined odds. For example, if three selections are at decimal 1.40, 1.50, and 1.60, the combined odds are 1.40 × 1.50 × 1.60 = 3.36 (approximately), so a ৳100 bet returns ৳336 if all win. But if any one selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Most Bangladeshi bettors find decimal odds the easiest — just multiply the bet amount by the odds to get the total return. Example: 3.00 × ৳200 = ৳600. Fractional odds are more common in the UK and American odds in the US. All three give the same information, just presented differently.
